Stollen
A rich, buttery German Christmas bread studded with dried fruits, nuts, and a surprise marzipan center, topped with powdered sugar.

Ingredients
- •3 cups all-purpose flour
- •1 cup warm milk
- •2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- •1/2 cup butter, softened
- •1/3 cup sugar
- •1/2 teaspoon salt
- •1 cup mixed dried fruits (raisins, candied citrus peel)
- •1/2 cup sliced almonds
- •4 ounces marzipan
- •2 tablespoons melted butter
- •1/4 cup powdered sugar
Directions
- 1Combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 teaspoon sugar; let sit 5 minutes until foamy.
- 2Mix flour, remaining sugar, and salt; add yeast mixture and softened butter, kneading until smooth dough forms (10 minutes).
- 3Fold dried fruits and almonds into dough; let rise in greased bowl 90 minutes until doubled.
- 4Roll dough into 12x8 inch rectangle, place marzipan log in center, fold dough over and seal; shape into oval loaf.
- 5Place on parchment paper, cover, and let rise 60 minutes until puffy.
- 6Bake at 375°F for 45-50 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
- 7Brush warm stollen with melted butter and generously coat with powdered sugar while still warm.
