Stovetop Mac and Cheese

Ingredients
- •1 pound elbow macaroni
- •4 tablespoons butter
- •3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- •2 cups whole milk
- •2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- •1 cup gruyere cheese, shredded
- •1/2 teaspoon salt
- •1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- •1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- •2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
Directions
- 1Cook macaroni in salted boiling water until al dente, about 8 minutes; drain and set aside.
- 2Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat, then whisk in flour to create a roux; cook for 1-2 minutes.
- 3Gradually pour in milk while whisking constantly to avoid lumps, then simmer for 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened.
- 4Remove from heat and stir in cheddar and gruyere cheese until completely melted and smooth.
- 5Season with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to taste.
- 6Fold in the cooked macaroni until fully coated with sauce.
- 7Transfer to a serving dish, top with breadcrumbs, and serve immediately.
