Ingredients
- •2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- •4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- •1 egg
- •1/2 tsp salt
- •1/2 cup warm water
- •12 oz queso blanco cheese, cut into sticks
- •4 cups vegetable oil for frying
Directions
- 1Mix flour and salt, then work in butter, egg, and warm water until a smooth dough forms.
- 2Knead for 5 minutes, cover, and rest the dough for 20 minutes.
- 3Roll the dough thin and cut it into long strips about 3/4 inch wide.
- 4Wrap each queso blanco stick diagonally with dough, overlapping the edges and sealing both ends.
- 5Fry the tequeños at 350°F (175°C) for 2–3 minutes until evenly golden.
- 6Drain briefly and serve hot while the cheese is soft.
💡 Seal both ends of every dough spiral firmly; exposed cheese leaks into the frying oil before the wrapper can crisp.
