Teriyaki Pineapple Burger
A sweet-savory glazed beef burger with a caramelized pineapple ring, melted Swiss cheese, and teriyaki mayo that tastes like a Hawaiian getaway. A crowd-pleasing backyard favourite.
⏱ 30 minServes 4Hawaiian-American
Ingredients
- •680 g (1.5 lb) 80/20 ground beef
- •3 tbsp soy sauce
- •2 tbsp brown sugar
- •1 tbsp rice vinegar
- •1 clove garlic, minced
- •½ tsp fresh ginger, grated
- •1 tsp cornstarch
- •4 rings canned pineapple rings, drained
- •4 Swiss cheese slices
- •4 brioche burger buns
- •3 tbsp mayonnaise
- •4 leaves iceberg lettuce
- •1 tsp each salt and pepper
- •1 tbsp butter
Directions
- 1Make teriyaki glaze: combine soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and cornstarch in a small saucepan; simmer over medium heat for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened; set aside.
- 2Mix 1 tbsp of the teriyaki glaze into the mayonnaise; refrigerate the teriyaki mayo.
- 3Form ground beef into 4 patties; season with salt and pepper.
- 4Grill or pan-sear patties over medium-high heat for 4 minutes per side; brush generously with teriyaki glaze in the final 2 minutes.
- 5Lay Swiss cheese on each glazed patty and cover to melt for 1 minute.
- 6In the same pan, melt butter over medium-high heat and cook pineapple rings for 1–2 minutes per side until caramelized and golden.
- 7Toast buns until golden.
- 8Build burgers: teriyaki mayo on both bun halves, lettuce, patty with melted cheese, caramelized pineapple ring, top bun.
💡 Fresh pineapple slices can replace canned — just pat them very dry before caramelizing. The teriyaki glaze doubles as a great dipping sauce for fries on the side.
