Turkish Lamb with Yogurt (Yogurtlu Kuzu)
Tender roasted lamb served over crispy bread and topped with savory yogurt sauce and spiced tomato butter.

Ingredients
- •1.5 lbs lamb shoulder, cubed
- •2 cups plain yogurt
- •4 cloves garlic, minced
- •3 tbsp butter
- •1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- •1 tsp paprika
- •1 tsp cumin
- •to taste salt and pepper
- •2 tbsp olive oil
- •4 slices pita or flatbread
Directions
- 1Season lamb with salt, pepper, and cumin. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat and brown the lamb on all sides, about 8 minutes.
- 2Add 1 cup water to the pot, reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 45 minutes until lamb is tender.
- 3In a separate pan, melt butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- 4Stir in crushed tomatoes and paprika, simmer for 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- 5In a bowl, whisk yogurt with salt and 2 minced garlic cloves until smooth.
- 6Toast or warm the pita bread, then arrange on a serving platter.
- 7Spread yogurt sauce over the bread, top with the cooked lamb and its cooking liquid, then drizzle the spiced tomato butter sauce over the top.
- 8Serve immediately, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
