Ingredients

  • 450 g extra firm tofu, cut into cubes
  • 400 g canned tomatoes
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp neutral oil

Directions

  1. 1Press the tofu between paper towels for ten minutes, then cut it into large cubes.
  2. 2Fry the cubes in the oil for six minutes, turning, until golden on several sides. Lift them out.
  3. 3Add the tomatoes to the same pan with a splash of water and season.
  4. 4Simmer ten minutes until the sauce thickens and loses its raw edge.
  5. 5Return the tofu, add the soy sauce, and simmer five minutes so it takes up the sauce.
  6. 6Scatter the green onions over and serve with rice.

💡 Fry the tofu first and set it aside. Simmering raw tofu in the sauce leaves it bland and it breaks up as you stir.
