Watermelon Agua Fresca

Watermelon Agua Fresca

A light, crystal-clear watermelon drink that tastes like pure summer — blended, strained, and lightly sweetened with a squeeze of lime. This beloved Mexican street drink is endlessly refreshing and takes almost no effort to make.

⏱ 10 minServes 4Mexican

Ingredients

  • 6 cups seedless watermelon, rind removed and cubed
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 3 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1–2 tbsp granulated sugar or honey
  • 1 pinch pinch of salt
  • as desired ice and fresh mint or lime slices, for serving

Directions

  1. 1Add the watermelon cubes and 1 cup of cold water to a blender.
  2. 2Blend on high for 30–45 seconds until completely smooth.
  3. 3Pour the blended mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large pitcher, pressing gently with a spoon; discard solids.
  4. 4Stir in the lime juice, sugar or honey, and pinch of salt.
  5. 5Taste and adjust sweetness or lime to your liking.
  6. 6Refrigerate until cold, or serve immediately over plenty of ice.
  7. 7Garnish with mint sprigs or lime slices.

💡 The pinch of salt is the secret — it amplifies the sweetness of the watermelon without making the drink taste salty. If your watermelon is very sweet and ripe, you may not need any added sugar at all. This keeps well in the fridge for up to 2 days; just give it a good stir before serving as it will settle.
