Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

Directions

  1. 1Mix whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast in a large bowl.
  2. 2Add warm water and vegetable oil, then knead for 10 minutes until a stiff dough forms.
  3. 3Let dough rise in a covered bowl for 90 minutes until doubled in size.
  4. 4Divide dough into 6 equal portions and shape each into a ball, then poke a hole in the center and stretch into a bagel shape.
  5. 5Place bagels on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let them rest for 20 minutes.
  6. 6Bring a pot of water to boil and stir in honey, then boil each bagel for 1-2 minutes per side.
  7. 7Place boiled bagels on a greased baking sheet, top with sesame seeds if desired, and bake at 425°F for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
