Yakitori

Succulent grilled chicken skewers glazed with a sweet and savory soy-based sauce, served with charred edges and tender meat.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs boneless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup mirin
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, grated
  • 2 green onions, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp sake
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds

Directions

  1. 1Soak wooden skewers in water for 30 minutes. Thread chicken pieces and green onion pieces alternately onto skewers.
  2. 2Combine soy sauce, mirin, sugar, garlic, ginger, and sake in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat for 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened.
  3. 3Preheat grill or grill pan to high heat and brush with oil.
  4. 4Grill skewers for 2-3 minutes per side until chicken is cooked through, basting generously with the sauce in the last minute of cooking.
  5. 5Arrange yakitori on a serving plate and drizzle with remaining sauce, then sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve immediately.
